THREE O'CLOCK THOUGHTS

Have a Happy New Year!!

Looking back over 2010 it has been a very peculiar year tinged with both sadness and success. I lost two of my aunts this year...but they had long and happy lives. I re-discovered my family that emigrated  to Canada over 50 years ago, my mum and dad went as well, taking me with them but came home to the UK. My uncle and aunt stayed along with my cousin. We lost touch but I found them thanks to the wonders of Facebook and now we have a whole new family in Guelph Ontario.

Of course it goes without saying that I have made a whole series of bears which have taken a multitude of sizes and colours and all found lovely homes all over the world. I made some hard decisions this year too, in order to simplify my life and do the best for the bears I decided to stick to supplying one shop only, Silly Bears in Aberdeen. I like the way Julieann works, her professionalism and her vision is on a par with my own and so for me it makes great sense.

There have been firsts too...we had our first cruise and absolutely loved it so I think it might be the first of many! I also made a 24 inch bear for the first time..and that was a challenge but one worth doing. My grand-daughter Rosie started school which was very uplifting.

I know that 2011 will be full of new things too, my daughter Lucie is having her second baby in April. Elizabeth, my eldest grand-child is going to be 6 and she is really looking forward to being a big sister.

So I am hoping that 2011 will be great for all of us with lots of happy moments and challenges.

Maybe I could win the lottery....That's one thing that won't happen. I am destined to work for a living. Not that I am complaining. I love my work!

A sweet new look straight from the workshop!! Available direct from me!

This  is a brand new design , the first of a new collection of Hair-do bears which will all be elaborately dressed and will all be 10 inches tall. This is Sweet Cherry and she has wired arms , can stand and is wearing a hand made Duchesse satin Kimono which I painted in shades of pinks, plums and blues which a painted red sash and double bow at the back.

Have a HAPPY CHRISTMAS

I would like to wish everyone the happiest of Christmases and the most prosperous of New Years ...it's been a very strange year here. With the usual comings and goings and I have to say I vote for 2011 being a better and less stressful one than 2010. The Three O'Clock Bears are anticipating an exciting and exhilerating year ahead and I am looking forward to my newest grand-child who will be born in April!!

Thanks for all the warm hearted comments on my bears and MASSIVE thanks to all the lovely bear moms who adopted a THREE O'CLOCK BEAR!! If it wasn't for you I would not be able to carry on with this superb job!!

So please have a relaxing and harmonious holiday ..and if you can dig yourself out from under the snow...try to enjoy the company of friends, family and of course teddy bears!!

Big Bold and Beautiful....Bellini!

This is Bellini....my biggest bear ever! He is a 24 inch bear with Locline armature for posing sweetly. I dyed this stunning dense mohair myself and I just love this pinkish grey shade.

Bellini already has a home to go to but I thought I would show him off anyway!!!

 

Sarah ...a beautiful girl bear available now

This is Miss Sarah. She is a very pretty girl bear made from hand dyed mohair on which I used a pretty pearly beige shade. She has an inset ivory muzzle and I wired her arms so she can pose nicely. She measures just about 17 inches and has upper and lower sculpted eyelids along with lovely dark lashes.

I dressed her in an antique silk dolls dress in pale cream which has lots of elaborate lace and stitching, I hand dyed a piece of silk velvet to match to give her a pretty hair bow.

How to Give a Cat a Pill

1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat’s mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop in pill. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
3. Retrieve cat from bedroom and throw soggy pill away.
4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count on ten.
5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.
6. Kneel on floor with cat wedge firmly between knees. Hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat’s throat vigorously.
7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.
8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of a drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.
9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink one beer to take taste away. Apply band-aid to spouse’s forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.
10. Retrieve cat from neighbor’s shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door on neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with a dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.
11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whisky compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw away t-shirt and fetch new one from bedroom.
12. Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.
13. Tie the little b@stard’s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth, followed by a large piece of filet steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour two pints of water down throat to wash pill down.
14. Consume remainder of scotch. Get friend to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on the way home to order new table.
15. Arrange for RSPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters.

How to Give a Dog a Pill
1. Wrap it in bacon.
2. Toss it in the air

Two bears looking for new homes

Two sweet little bears need new homes. The lovely lady who is parting with them wants to have only the bigger bears in her collection now and so is parting with them They are both in pristine condition and can be adopted by getting in touch with the lady who is selling them for  about £325 each. I think this price might be negotiable.

Hunky Dory available now!

This is HUNKY DORY...a beautiful 19.5 inch bear with wired arm and who can stand if balanced. He's made from gorgeous feathery mohair which is a taupe shade with brown tips. I have inset the muzzle with oatmeal Tissavel faux fur fabric. He has intricately designed eyes in shades of gold with sculpted upper and lower eyelids.

I made a striking ruffle out of silk velvet which I dyed a vivid shade of magenta and it is set of by a pretty vintage silk flower in shades of blue and purple.
