New bears available from Silly Bears!!

Silly Bears of Aberdeen, Scotland are launching their Autumn/Winter Collection and there will be three new Three O'Clock Bears available. The website goes live at 8pm but here is a little preview of the bears!!

Little Liesl is a 14 inch girl who is the result of much hard work. She is an extra special design and a unique bear.

Tundae is an 18 inch boy with hand painted brown eyes

Pushing that envelope....

Being a bear maker is rather like being King Knut...you really are in a position where sitting there thinking that you can stop things happening is futile, the business moves on without you if you don't move first! So to keep on making the same old, same old while it's easy is not at all productive or, for me at least, creatively satisfying. Hence why I am constantly trying hard to give my bears an 'edge'. I do think it's important for me to try to stand out from the crowd...whether I achieve that is not for me to judge...but I love thinking of new directions to take the bears. While I never completely leave my 'style' behind I do like to constantly test myself and push my personal envelope!

I have looked at lots of areas which to the outside might not appear on the surface much different but I have looked at the way I do the eyes on my bears and have made a significant change and am loving the new look...and I have designed lots of lovely new oufits with a new colour story which I am excited about. This is Gertrude who is the second of my Booted Bears...wearing a pair of hand made leather boots which go nicely with her pretty outfit.

I think that's why I love bear-making....it let's my imagination go wild!!

A little cub on eBay!

This is TIMBERLEY BEAR. He is a sweet baby cub made from gorgeous realistic faux fur. He has a needle felted muzzle which adds to his sweet expression!!

His eBay auction finishes on Sunday 22nd at 8.30 pm and his reserve is $575 which is roughly £370 and includes shipping.

Two new bears off to 'A Bear Place'

Two new bears are ready to go off on a long journey to Singapore to Urenda Thams new shop 'A Bear Place'.  Miss Livvie and Poppet the Panda are the first Three O'clock Bears to be available at the shop and will be available by contacting Urenda who has all the details.

Sweet Willem ..a little boy bear available

I had so much fun making this pretty bear's outfit that I can't wait to do the next one!! His name is Sweet Willem and he is 12 inches tall and has an inset alpaca muzzle in gold contrasting beautifully with the hand dyed chestnut shaded wavy mohair which I used for his head and body.

He has wired arms and legs and is quite a chunky bear. I made him a lovely pair of leather boots  with cord laces and a leather bag trimmed with a vintage shell button. I made him a 50s style swing back coat in grey houndstooth tweed which is 100% wool.

He stands nicely when balanced and poses sweetly when sitting too!

This bear harks back to my original designs and I have taken great inspiration from him and intend to do more such bears very soon!
