It's that time of year again....when the last hours and minutes of the old year tick wearily by to make way for a brand shiny NEW YEAR.....
Well I for one won't be unhappy to see the back of 2008 and when I charge my glass to welcome the New Year in I'll also be hoping that 2009 brings better luck for everyone than this year did.
I just think the only way has to be up in 2009!!!
Did I miss it? Christmas I mean....It seems only a blink of an eye since we dragged our tree out of the loft and my little grand-daughters Rosie and Elizabeth 'helped' me to decorate it by putting practically ALL the baubles on the same branch and soon it will be being dismantled and shoved back up through the hatch to spend another year in it's box.
I might actually get a real one next year...having said that our cat has ideas about climbing trees indoors, which if faced with a bit of real wood she might actually try out...so on second thoughts old fake Christmas tree...you will live to see another festive season all dressed in your twinkly finery.
We do need a new set of lights though...I have a very plausible theory on Christmas lights and why they break every year....
Anyone braved the sales yet? Not me...you won't find me within a mile of a shop for at least a fortnight...not on yer nelly...
I hate 'the sales'...it's when shops sell all the dreadful crap they couldn't sell about 5 years ago and then put messy racks of it out at 5 am in the morning for a queue of half-crazed nutters who haven't done enough shopping BEFORE Christmas to grab in a feeding frenzy of 'bargain' hunting only to put it in the wardrobe never to see light of day till it turns up at a charity shop for someone like my mother ( when she was alive) to bring home for me to wear and I promptly chuck it in the bin.
It's only a bargain if you need it...
At 6.10 this evening Erik Oliver Johnson was born, weighing in at 8lbs1oz. So that means I am a 3 times Grannie ansd I am so delighted about our new baby boy!!
Mum Louise and my son Oliver are excited to say the least and big sister Rosie isn't all that sure if she likes boys ..in spite of that baby is doing very well!!
I have just finished a new bear, his name is Malachie and he's 16.5 inches tall. He is available for immediate adoption on my website.
I am cooking on gas now as the meds are definitely working and I am feeling like my own self again!!
So I am looking forward to a much merrier Christmas than I thought I'd be having a couple of weeks ago!
We went to the Toy Fair at the NEC today and, alarmingly, the queue, which stretched for miles practically, was full of MEN! Some fairly weird looking men I have to say...mainly the anorak and shopping bag carrying type. I did tell my husband that he was the best looking one there, though he didn' t take it as a compliment given the competition!
I did think the show, which was advertised as TOY COLLECTORS FAIR, was inappropriately named since I wouldn't call any of the items real 'toys' in the sense that children might've wanted to play with them. These were mainly trainsets, and trainsets.. then more trainsets. Oh and remote control cars, and even more trainsets.
Very few women featured in the crowd of anoraked ,centre parted, slightly balding, bearded, bespectacled, mainly forty something men.
I found the bit I was heading for, the tiny section of teddies mingled amongst the trainsets. I saw Susan from Bear Basics, bought some lovely fabric then beat a hasty retreat out of there before my husband decided to get a trainset...and an anorak!!!
I can't believe that Christmas is the week after next. I have actually been Christmas shopping by myself which is a challenge at the moment but I was fine..but came home penniless and loaded up with pressies.
I am feeling a bit better today although it's a roller coaster ride...one day at a time.
The Three O'clock Bears are keeping me busy and though the productivity is far off what my usual out-put is I do think that I am producing some nice bears which I am enjoying very much. Here is my latest design which I am quite proud of..his name is YUKIKO which means 'snow-child' in Japanese and hope he'll be the first of a series of cubs on all fours. He's off to live with his new Mum on Monday.
Just thought I better touch base and at least post SOMETHING on my blog. I am still on the roller-coaster I am afraid...but my frame of mind is more positive and less 'doom and gloom' is hanging round me. Though the black dog is still here like a menacing presence.
I am on my second increased dose of medication now as my doctor said yesterday I need to get to a therapeutic dose which it seems I was not on...well therapeutic for ME at any rate. I am doing all my exercises..walking...trying to get on with life.
It's not a nice place to be and I truly hope it will be over soon. I empathise with all who have suffered this because when I had my broken leg it was a case of every day was a day nearer to getting better, but with this it's the not knowing and the intangibles that are hard to understand.
Also others find it hard to deal with...yet I do deal with it..every day. I am making bears though...that's my sanctuary!!
I am not for the loony bin just yet!!
